Mechanical Estimator

Job Summary:

The Industrial Mechanical Estimator is responsible for preparing accurate and competitive cost estimates for industrial mechanical projects, including but not limited to HVAC, piping, plumbing, fire protection, and process systems. This role requires a strong understanding of mechanical systems, construction methodologies, and cost estimating principles. The Estimator will work closely with project managers, engineers, and subcontractors to develop comprehensive bids that maximize profitability while minimizing risk.

Key Responsibilities:

• Review project specifications, drawings, and other documentation to determine the scope of work.
• Prepare detailed quantity take-offs for all mechanical systems and components.
• Develop accurate cost estimates for labor, materials, equipment, and subcontracts.
• Solicit and evaluate subcontractor bids for specialized services.
• Analyze historical cost data and market trends to ensure competitive pricing.
• Prepare and present cost proposals to clients, including detailed breakdowns of costs.
• Collaborate with project managers and engineers to develop value engineering options.
• Identify and mitigate potential risks associated with project costs.
• Maintain accurate records of all estimates and supporting documentation.
• Participate in project kick-off meetings and provide cost information to project teams.
• Stay up-to-date on industry best practices and new technologies.
• Contribute to the continuous improvement of the estimating process.

Qualifications:

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field preferred. Equivalent experience will be considered.
• Proven experience as an Industrial Mechanical Estimator, preferably in a similar industry.
• Strong understanding of industrial mechanical systems and construction practices.
• Proficiency in reading and interpreting blueprints, specifications, and other project documents.
• Excellent quantity take-off skills and attention to detail.
• Ability to develop accurate and competitive cost estimates.
• Knowledge of cost estimating software and tools (e.g., On-Screen Takeoff, RSMeans).
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.  
• Strong organizational and time-management skills.
